Your most embarrassing messages, online

Ok, now technology is here with a vengeance with

audioo From a tech-geek whose last project was an online repository of downloadable sound effects, Audioo’s also a repository, but not sound effects, this time embarrassing voicemails uploaded by users who received these messages from their friends – or people that used to be their friends.

After upload, each message’s transcribed and posted as both a text and audio file, with examples from various area codes including:

(718): A UPS guy calls a customer to pick up leftover boxes, which he’s worried about ’cause he thinks they may be holding a ferret, a point he emphasizes by swearing, then saying "I don’t cuss unless I’m serious about something" — well, $#**.

tshirt_talkin_trash(917): A clearly pale guy tries to convince a girl to come over by letting her know that "to answer your question, I put on sunscreen even if it is pitch dark outside, literally… I got some spf 80 here. I got some spf 90. I got some spf 1000. Seriously, I’m just tryin’ to  get you to my house so we can make out. Just come on over. I got the spf whatever. And uh, we’ll go hang out in the sun. Or not. It doesn’t matter." Hmmmm… actually it kind of does.

This makes me sad for the people involved and I guess just sad in general.  If you participate, I have the T-shirt for you. Is this a good use of technology?

Reclaimed wood cell phone holder

chair1 A talented man from Houston is making art and usable items from reclaimed wood.  Items include a variety of artsy fare intended to rustic-ize electronic goods, like a chair-shaped iPod holder, DVD shelving and a shadow-box LED nightlight carved from fence picketing destroyed by Hurricane Ike. The creator, James, says ”I prefer upcycling, recycling, and using reclaimed products. Most of my wood items are made from reclaimed wood. Most of my shipping supplies are reused or made from recycled material. I’ll be branching out into other green products soon”.

chair2 This cell phone holder is made entirely from reclaimed plywood scraps from a broken dresser drawer. This little chair can hold cell phones or other media that are up to 2 1/2" wide.  If you like the woodgrain look, there is a different stand made from reclaimed fence wood. Visit James Etsy store “From Marz”, and be inspired.

Mealtime indecision = Yummly

Yummly is a mealtime search engine

Trying to decide what to make for dinner? Perhaps you’re craving a specific flavor or texture? I once worked with someone who would smack their lips in hopes that their taste buds would identify what they should eat for lunch. Now there is Yummly.

Thrillist - Yummly

A search engine to solve mealtime indecision

It’s a new venture from two eBay vets and it’s super-advanced search engine connects you to the perfect meal via a slick interface with cool controls for everything from flavor profiles to nutrition specs. I’t perfect if you have no self control. The main aspect of their proprietary "FoodFinder" is the sliding scales which represent the amount of the five major tastes you want in your dish. You control results from over 500,000 recipes and can narrow the results by choosing dietary restrictions (vegan, wheat-free,…sulfite-free), preferred cuisine type (from Croatian to Maltese), max prep time, and by restricting/mandating certain ingredients. What’s for dinner tonight?

offensive gifts for Dad – day five

greyGoing gray? Dad’s earned his salt and pepper look. Help him keep his gray and his dignity – avoid the urge to grab one of these.

5. Anything “Just for Men” Related

What if he likes the few hairs left on his head that have turned white or gray? There’s no need to hide the fact that he’s earned the wisdom of his old age – it’s right there on his head/chest/beard/mustache/ears. Why hide Mother Nature’s wrath on the human body with smelly chemicals that are just a step above Grecian Formula?
